Could social chatter kill email
I’m fascinated by this question, by the evolution of communication tools. In the corporate world email has been king for many years, but people are now starting to actively question whether this is the best tool for the job. Does it enable us to be as productive as we can be, to communicate as effectively as we know we can, to collaborate efficiently to achieve goals?
Any readers of this blog will know I’m a huge supporter of tools such as Salesforce Chatter, Rypple and other online platforms that bring social into the workplace. These tools have the ability to radically alter how we communicate, how we collaborate, how we work. They encourage immediate and real-time communication as opposed to protracted and fragmented email discussions.
Although the infographic above shows email is far from disappearing, there can be no question that the migration to more social tools is taking place and this will only gather momentum as tomorrow’s digital natives enter the workplace. I’m looking forward to seeing this shift pickup speed.
